Hi! I’m Sam Anderson, writer for The New York Times Magazine.

  • I’m a guy who types things about people, ideas, and places. I’m not from New York, but I live there now. I have a beard.

  • My reporting has taken me from Iceland to Kenya to Japan. I’ve gone jogging with Haruki Murakami, slept on "Weird Al" Yankovic's tour bus, compared iPhone lock screens with Kevin Durant, discussed fake vomit with Noah Wyle on the set of "The Pitt," and been (almost) punched in the face many times by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I also wrote a book about Oklahoma City, an endlessly fascinating weirdo place, called Boom Town.

  • I like to draw and take photos with old cameras.
